We are particularly looking to raise some funds to cover the tuition for 2014 so the children can remain in their current school. Education is such a vital part of their lives and the average cost at present for each child’s schooling is R700 per month, including transport. We hope by 2017 to open our own school on The Fold property for the younger ones. We will also open our third house in 2014 and for this we estimate we need R6,000 per month to staff and run the house, and with every additional child the cost is R1,600 per month.
As we are entirely self-funding we are always most grateful for donations. Supporters so far have given significant sums which have gone towards the cost of major items such as the minibus, the tractor and the poly-tunnel, but we have also received generous gifts such as furniture, toys, clothes and food. We have kind supporters who donate monthly by direct debit and they have been crucial in making the Fold what it is today.
We will be inviting the local lodge owners and managers to see the progress that is being made, and hopefully they might be able to offer some help. Lodge guests often visit The Fold, and it always seems to make an impression on them, as many keep in touch, and have been generous with donations.
